COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

STAIN (WOOD, SOLVENT-DYE TYPE)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this

Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification

TT-S-720.

Salient characteristics:

The stain shall be a homogeneous liquid and shall consist of light-fast organic dyes dissolved in a suitable organic solvent. The solvent used shall be non-photochemically reactive as defined in South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule 102.1/ The use of benzene is not permitted. The stain shall not contain lead in excess of 0.06% percent by weight of nonvolatile (ASTM D 3335).

Odor. After 30 minutes air drying the stained panels shall have no odor (ASTM D 1296).

Color. After finishing, the color of the stain shall match the standard references panel (ASTM D 1729). 2/

Drying time. When applied to wood of the same species as the reference panel, the stain shall not transfer to the fingers after 30 minutes air drying (ASTM D 1729).

The issues of the ASTM standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.

Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.

Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.

THE COMMERCIAL ITEM CERTIFICATION CLAUSE IS NOT REQUIRED WHEN THIS COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION IS USED FOR PROCUREMENT.
