COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GOLD LEAF
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification QQ-G-547.
This commercial item description covers gold leaf in the forms of sheets furnish in books.
Salient characteristics:
Each book shall contain 25 sheets and be bound with a suitable cover. Each sheet shall be pressed onto white tissue paper and placed between leaves of the book, and shall not contact any other sheet. Each sheet of gold shall be free from creases and folds. Each book shall contain not less than 0.01063 troy ounces (0.3306 g) of gold alloy, and gold alloy shall not be less than 95.5 percent pure gold.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing and marking. The gold leaf shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice, and packed in fiberboard boxes which will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
