COMMERCIAL ITEM CERTIFICATION
PAINT, LATEX, (GLOSS, INTERIOR)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers 5 types of gloss latex paint for interior use as follows:
Type I High hiding white suitable for tinting to pastel shades
Type II ready mixed colors
Type III Medium shade tint base
Type IV Deep tone tint base
Type V Ultra deep tone tint base
Salient characteristics:
Unless otherwise specified, types I, III, IV, and V, shall be compatible with tinting media conforming to Federal Specification TT-T-390.
The container shall not be corroded and the paint shall be free from biological growth or putrid odor. The paint shall be easily redispersed by hand stirring to a uniform condition free from persistent foam (ASTM D 2931, par 7.1).
The paint shall brush, roll, and spray easily and shall dry to a smooth, uniform film free from pinholes, craters, dusting, sagging, or excessive brush marks (ASTM D 2931, par 8.1).
Color. The ready mixed paint shall match the specified color (ASTM D 1729).1/
Odor. The odor of the paint in the can and during application shall not be irritating. There shall be no residual odor after 24 hours air drying (ASTM 1296).
Fungus resistance. The paint shall have a surface disfigurement rating of 8 or greater (ASTM D 3273).
Alkali resistance. The paint shall not blister or emulsify when exposed for 4 hours to 0.5 percent NaOH. After 24 hour recovery, the film shall show no change in color or gloss (ASTM D 1308, par 6.2). 2/
