COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

Enamel, Fast-Dry Aerosol

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.

1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers fast drying enamels for general-purpose use.

2. CLASSIFICATION.

2.1 Type. Enamel, Fast-Dry.

2.2 Style. Aerosol.

2.3 Size. Nominal one-pint commercial pressured dispensers.

3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The aerosol enamel shall be furnished in nominal one-pint commercial pressured dispensers and shall be dispersible by hand shaking for one minute at room temperature. The valve shall operate with moderate finger pressure and close immediately upon release of pressure without sputtering. The spray shall be uniform and a smooth film shall be deposited. The can shall deliver at least 98 percent by weight of contents. The enamel shall not contain halogenated solvents or propellants.

3.1 Sampling. Aerosol containers shall be sampled in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/ American Society for Quality (ASQ) Z1.4-1993 for inspection by attributes, and ANSI/ASQ Z1.9-1993 Sampling procedures and tables used for inspection by variables for percent non-conforming testing. Copies may be obtained from the American Society for Quality, P.O. Box 3005, 611 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53201-4606. Testing shall be performed in accordance with all requirements. An AQL of 1.5 percent defectives for an inspection level equivalent to S-1 shall not be exceeded.

3.2 Quality Assurance Provisions. Unless otherwise specified, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements specified herein using facilities approved by the
