4.8 Examination for packaging, packing, and marking. An examination shall be made to
determine that packaging, packing, and marking of the end item complies with the applicable
requirements of Section 5. The sample unit shall be one complete shipping container. Sampling
shall be in accordance with ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993.
4.9 Requirements cross-reference matrix. Table 2 provides a cross-reference matrix of the
Section 3 requirements and Section 4 verification paragraphs.

5. PACKAGING
5.1 General. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in the
contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of materiel is to be performed by DoD
personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain requisite
packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Point's
packaging activity within the Military Department or Defense Agency, or within the Military
Department's Acquisition Command. Packaging data retrieval is available from the managing
Military Department's or Defense Agency's automated packaging files, CD-ROM products, or by
contacting the responsible packaging activity.
